President Sarkozy with Presidential elections on the horizon has been targeting foreign holiday home owners.From January 2012, holiday home owners will be hit with a new property tax. It is based on the rental value of the property - so flats in the north will pay less than villa owners on the Med coast. The cost will be 20% of this nominal rental value per year. Not a popular move for sure, and there is talk that this regulation will be challenged in the European courts as it discriminates against foreign property owners.More details: New French Property taxes in 2012
